My Journey began early Saturday morning, my bag packed and loaded into the [...]

My Journey began early Saturday morning, my bag packed and loaded into the “Man Van”.
I climbed in as Jethal took the drivers seat, and once settled he brought the van to life with a quick turn of the key. As we pulled out of our driveway I savored the last of my morning coffee and let my drift over the events that would happen later on, in a place that many people dream of visiting.

We had to make a quick stop and grab our friend Greg who had made taking this trip possible. No, not just a trip, but an Adventure.

Elquinjena was going to Hollywood!!

It was also more than just going to Hollywood, I was off to attend an once in a lifetime event, The Tutor’s Gallery!

Over the course of the past 4 months, myself and many other “Students” had been participating in a online art class of the most unusual nature. This class, dream child of Terrance Zdunich and Shem Andre Byron, brought to life our teacher, The Tutor.

It has been said that The Tutor is a cross between Bob Ross and Ted Bundy, and was this teacher, while under the watchful eye of Shem, who gave out weekly lessons and homework. The Tutor also took his roots from Terrance Zdunich latest project “The Molting Comic” a 12 part series which Terrance has been working on over the past year with 5 issues out to date.

This night, October 23rd 2010, was to be our graduation, a celebration of the work of the students, the ushering in of the 5th comic of the Molting series and a visit from The Tutor, who would offer up a Live performance of a lesson!

Once at the airport, Greg and I started off our adventure in a way we thought fitting of the event we were attending.
Nothing is more tasty than a bloody breakfast!!

Once on the ground we were taken to our polish accommodations at the LAX Hilton Hotel.

The view from the 13th floor was lovely!

Soon it was off to dinner with my guild-mate “Cheddarella”, also known as Sheryl Adsit. It was my birthday present from her to be our chauffeur and guide for the evening. Of course we had to kick things off with some tasty drinks!

With my entourage in tow we waited outside The Paul Gleason Theater on Hollywood Blvd for the event to start.

The front windows held a display of some of the items used in The Tutor’s lessons.

Once we were allowed in and properly stamped, the Roll Call of all the students names greeted us.

The foyer also offered a chance to view Testimonials created by students , about The Tutor’s lessons, an interesting offering of food and snacks, a place to purchase Tutor merchandise

The The Lovely and very talented Danica Bergagnini was at the merchandise table.

and some of the fresh new copies of issue 5 of the Molting Comic

and of course what all the best galleries offer, a bar!!

This was adorning the wall above said bar!

With Drinks in hand we moved further in to find the Tutor’s classroom waiting for us.

The dark walls were off set by original art work from the Molting comic, done by Terrance Zdunich, art work from the Tutor videos, and right along side these offerings were pictures of all the students artwork.

On a table in front of the main stage was the “Teachers Assistant” petting zoo, Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. These were offspring of Marv and the late Goldie Cockroach who also co-starred in the Tutor lesson plans.

Some students stepped up and adopted the offered offspring, and are now documenting their growth with a Show and Tell with The Tutor.

Along the back wall and above the stage was a large bank of set, all displaying clips from each and every student’s work who took part in the Tutor’s lesson plans.

There was a audience area for people to sit and watch as the students lessons as they were displayed on the tv sets above the stage.

The crowd grew thicker as time passed, people mixing and mingling, passing out smiles, hugs and warm greetings.

Students got to meet other fellow students who came from far and near to attend the evenings gala.

Few people knew that this black box theater was really a part of history, it was in this very theater that Repo! The Genetic Opera had first started out.
So it was wonderful to see not only Darren Smith, co-creator of Repo!, attending this event

but also Darren Bousman, director of Repo! , Saw 1-4, Motherday and creator of Abattoir

I was most honored when I asked SpookyDan if I might take his picture, but turned the tables on me by saying I should have mine taken with him.

Spooky Dan Walker is a self proclaimed Horror Culture Activist, heads up the Repo Army, , a film artist and director, among many other wondrous things.

Even while he was being pulled in a thousand different directions, shem took a moment to stop what he was doing and give me a hug. A bit later I snagged him for a photo. What you can’t see is that Shem is wearing a Death Record t-shirt!! Another fan of Phantom of the Paradise !!

Shem is the video director, editor and co creator of The Tutor series. He also spent 12-hour days for weeks editing content that was submitted by all the students during the course of the lessons which was then shown on the tv monitors which were above the stage area. Many hours of hard work, devotion and love went into bring the Gallery to life for all to enjoy.

Shem took the stage as the crowd packed in closer to listen to start things off with the costume contest. Many a brave soul mounted the stage to show off their costumes, with a lobster and guilty Susie taking the prizes for this event.

This is a short bit of the opening to the main part of the tutor gallery which was held on Oct 23rd 2010 done by Shem Andre Byron

Finally the Tutor took the stage to give all in attendance a lesson they would never forget.
After the lesson student graduation commenced along with awards given to to recognize some exceptional students.

The Tutor’s Live Lesson Terrance Zdunich

As the lights dimmed we headed out onto the street to reflect on the extravaganza we had been lucky to be a part of. The warm southern California air greeted us as we made our way back to our transport back to the Hilton Hotel and of course more drinks. It was an event of a lifetime and we were witness to it.

Those who were lucky enough to get the loot card “Legends 5 Bedroom Home” from the Ethernauts card set were excited to own a 5 room magical house which cost no coin or status.

These magical houses have two locations, one in the South Qeynos Mage Tower and the other can be found at the bottom part of the Academy of Arcane Science building in North Freeport.

BUT

Many who own this house feel left out when ever there are new housing to be bought. Many having to create a new alt in order to experience any new housing.

Since these magical houses were so very hard to get, few are willing to pack up and move for fear of losing them.

Well Fear No More!!

I have the Official SOE word that, once you own a magical house you will always be able to own one. These houses fall into a “Permission Right”, just like the Maj Dul houses were once you gain enough faction to buy one, you can move back in if you move to another house later on. You have earned the right to own a magical house any time you choose to move in.

This does not mean that you get a free house else where, the only free house you can lay clam to is a magical house. You will have to go and purchase any new place you move to.

So pack up and move magical house owners, go and experience new house joys!! Then when you grow weary of those walls around you, fee free to move back to a magical house, it will be waiting there for your return!

Normally, I am just a PVE player. Give me mobs that stand there [...]

Normally, I am just a PVE player.
Give me mobs that stand there and wait for me or only let me worry about is pathing.
How ever, there has been times when I have dipped my toes into the PvP shark filled waters.

When I played WoW, one of the things that amazed me, was the impromptu PVP. It could descent on any of the towns in the game, sending out alerts to warning those in the area that the closest town was under attack. Most players would quickly band together creating a force to defend said town from the Invaders.

It would boil down to a PvP happening, leaving a wake of little skeleton bodies covering the area. It would go on as long as there were players attacking each other and end when the attackers decided to head back home, and I found these little PVP battles fun. I could either join in or stand off and watch.

SO when battleground was announced I was pretty jazzed about it, because we have finally gotten some sort of volunteer PvP content, also it would bring in people from all servers. Something that Blizzard has been doing for quite a while now and darn it….why should they have all the cool thing and not us at EQ2?
Dueling is ok but your are limited to a single player, and the arena are ok but for some reason no one cares for them.

So I logged on to the test-copy server and dove in head first. I did a ALT Z and hit the “add me to any”. I got qued up and zapped into the first open spot. I found my self in an area with a barrier surrounding my self and a few other people, then before the group was full we were released. I had not read up on which battleground this was, so I was lost as to what the heck I was doing. Was this capture the flag or defend?? I had no clue.

Lets just say it was a slaughter, I don’t even remember getting one shot in on anyone, I just remember dying then reviving and finding my self dead yet again. My revive point was either camped or I was reviving right where I died. After my team lost we found our self’s in a tight pile having to /quit to get out.

This was over a week ago and I now know what has been keeping Rothgar up late, giving him headache and basically making him living at his desk. He has been very busy working out the kinks and is continuing to do so.

This past week there came a server wide tempting offer from Breno to ” come try BG and get a cloak for participating”, which caused me to give it another shot.

Yes I lowered my self to accept the bribe of a free item to go try BG again. I figured that even if I had to stand there and die again a bunch of times, I would have a cloak to wrap my wounds in.

This time I read over the options, made mental note as to which was a capture the flag, protect the relic or defend the area. I hit the Add me to first open yet again and waited, and with a small sound prompt, the accept window popped up so off I went.

I entered the Gears of Klak’anon instance, which is a protect the relic match. I was not sure what the relic was or how to protect it but at least I knew what I was headed for. The first thing to happen after entering the instance I was prompted to pick my UL settings.

* blinks* What a time to be hit with this!!

I hastily picked one and then spent the next few mins adjusting my hotbars and keys before I could dive into the action.

This time I actually had fun! I was able to run around, get a few kills in and heck I even snagged the relic for a while. Oh I got killed but it was ok, because I was able to get back into the action for a while before I got nailed again. Our team did not win but it was so very close. The teams, this time, seemed to be more evenly matched than in the first one I tried. When done I got a token for that instance for my time and trouble.

I jumped in again and I picked the Gears of Klak’anon since I had a good time in it and knew what was needed of me. The wait was short and off I went again. Still my team did not win, matter of fact, my team lost by over half of what the winning team had (220 to 400 something)…but…I had a good time again, I was even laughing at times.

One member of my team did not have a good time and expressed it before we got whisked back the test server. Upon returning I contacted him to find out why.

Jameston is a fellow AB server player and we had a long talk about our experiences with BG so far. Things we liked, disliked and things we both thought might be a better way to experience BG. His experience was very much like my first, all deaths no play which is no fun at all. This made him feel that BG was a big Fail.

First, having a totally different UI set up is good but also I was not ready for it. I am also not sure how I can refine my UI set for battleground without being in there. That is an important part, having the spell line up correct and ready, there is little time to mess around while your in BG.

Second, the balance of groups. I had heard that they even had two groups full of SK’s once. When you go in and the teams are balanced it is much more fun! If a group which is mostly level 80′s face off a with a group of mostly 90′s or if a group is too heavy in one class or another then the fun factor decreases. I can find no joy in being stuck in a death loop.
Third PVE vs PVP. Many PvE players who might want to play BG are generally worried that they will not have a chance against seasoned PvP players. They are already set up in the UI’s, gear and tactics to tromp any who are not. Meaning PvE players who are still learning how to PVP will be lambs to the slaughter.

If there was some way to match PvE against other PVE players I could see BG being something that would carry a larger fun factor.

Most PVE players just won’t keep at it if there is little to no chance of them competing with PvP players in these instances. People will lose interest in wanting to go just to be killed over and over, cool gear or not.

Jameston is a very good example of a normal PVE player coming and giving BG a shot, only to walk away with a bad experience with little to encourage him to try it again. It is the first impressions of any thing new that will either drive the player away or entice them to try it again. I am hoping that Jameston will give it another shot either on test or when it goes live.

One thing I can see happening is people recruiting members for raids, or groups just to do BG. Planning tactic and strategy for each instance. Having people assigned to roles and learning to stick together can really make a different in winning or losing.

Honestly I would like to see some way to chose which you end up playing against. Maybe server wide and world wide choices. I know this would be a great way to bring back Guild wars. Back in EQ1, one guild could declare war on the other and if the other guild accepted, all members were flagged PVP to each other.

Battleground could offer a way for this to be brought back IF each guild could enter the same BG instance as the other. Right now I have no idea if this is possible since it pulls from all servers.

I do like the fact that my gear was not harmed after all those deaths, I like that I got at least a token after it was done. I was not able to find anything about the rewards ( how many tokens it takes etc) but if EQ2 Battleground is structured as WoW”s battlegrounds are, then for rewards you will need to do X number of each instance to progress in the reward structure.

I am looking forward to seeing this go live EVEN though they are still tweaking it. They still need more people in there playing and testing and sending in feedback. One thing everyone needs to remember about /feedback, don’t just send one off saying * this sucks*.

Let them know what parts of it you did not like but also put in anything you DID LIKE. What way they can work on making it better for all players. Remember that positive constructive criticism gives them more to work with. They do listen and are really looking to providing this to all players.

So see you in battleground!!
And if you end up with an arrow from me in your back,
honest it’s nothing personal, and I expect to see you getting me back next go around
but for now….( snatches up the relic out of your cold dead hands) MINE!…

Erollisi was dead: to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. [...]

Erollisi was dead: to begin with.
There is no doubt whatever about that.
The register of her burial was signed by the clergyman, the clerk, the undertaker, and the chief mourner.
The Dev’s signed it: and the Dev’s names was good upon ‘Change, for anything they chose to put a hand to.
Erollisi Marr was as dead as a door-nail.

Well it was good enough for Dickens so I figured I would try it. *shrugs*
Don’t roll over in your grave there Charles, really I do respect your work, it just seemed so fitting.

Erollisi day is here with a couple new quests, along with the old ones, roses to gather and hand out for titles and of course items to buy and craft. For crafting check out Den Mum’s page! Also you can hop over to Zam for quest info.

Most people will rush out and run through the content never bothering to read what is going on, and what is going on during a usual happy event is sadness

The Sisters of Erollisi even state how sad they are if you speak with them

Even the Priestess is full of grief.

I first started with the quest giver who can be found outside the north Qeynos Gates in Antonica.

This point of a replacement for Erollisi has been brought up in the lore channel (befallen.lore) that there might be a chance for another to take her place. Here you can see it being mentioned …” a planar successor”

He goes on giving us hope that maybe if we spread enough love, Erollisi would know and feel it.

Anything is worth a shot, but you will have to read what he says next for your self. It was a red herring, bate and switch. The attempt to make us feel better even though she is gone.

I then headed out to the Costal Grove to see the Sisters of Erollisi, and like I said before, they are also having a hard time.

The most comfort we can get is to Cope with what has happen to Erollisi. Sadly, the new quest places an even darker cloud over Erollisi day. The lesson we learn is Treachery, it is through the high priestess of treachery do we learn how much darker things really are.

Could it be true? Is Hate now stronger than Love?

Oh Well……….. at least there is a new book to collect!!

gotta love new books even if they are about hate and murder.

To get out your frustrations we get a chance to go plunk arrows into people

Wow look at this guy!! I shoot him in the neck and he still loves me!!

You can shoot most animals around Antonica as well, make a pack of Love bears if you like. The only ones I could not use my cupid like bow on were cows, I guess cows in love is not a good thing.

For shits and giggles, I tried it on some gnolls too, ah love is in the air when you hear the yips, yaps and growls of gnolls in love.

But truly I came away from the event with a sadden heart. I enjoyed doing the old match making quest, and the slick one liner quest, and will look forward to handing out roses for the various titles, but that one quest which gives you a book for your house seemed to prove that Hate is stronger than Love.

Well I guess this Erollisi day is really one for the Freeport / Neriak folk who like dark dramas.

Unless…………..

The Dev’s are yanking our chains hard, and with the coming Halas area, we might find something of the Goddess there. Those in the know about lore, will know that Erollisi took refuge in Everfrost and started the race of barbarians. She might just return to the one place she felt was her home away from home.
Another wait and see but I am honestly not getting my hopes up.

Until then…………. here have a rose

I only have 499 more to give out.
